Peplos pins Br-106

kr550.00

These peplos pins are typical in shape and size for the Gotlandic women’s attire from the Viking Age. A large number of such peplos pins have been found on Gotland, usually in pairs. The pin itself was typically around 5-7 cm long and mostly made of bronze. On the pin, as on this model, there was often a larger decorative knob that ended with a hole. The hole seems to have had a function to thread through a cord, which may have been used to tie the pin when inserted into the garment, or to attach a string of beads.

This model is based on a find from Stenkyrka on Gotland. The original was made of bronze and is now in the collections of the Historical Museum in Stockholm. See: https://samlingar.shm.se/object/047B2B59-4FC6-426B-8BBB-8411C4F10A67
